A typical Direct Mail project for the Drayton Bird Partnership.
One of many Direct Mail campaigns I helped create for DaimlerChrysler UK, on behalf of the Drayton Bird Partnership. At perhaps the pinnacle of my creative artworking career, this was a favourite project of mine: the Mercedes-Benz SLK 350 [ PREPARE FOR LAUNCH ] and [ TAKE OFF ] concept.
This pack, like most of the DM work for DaimlerChrysler UK, was made up of a mailer, a Test Drive Request form and a personalised letter. In most instances, I would receive any existing media from DaimlerChrysler Germany, together with a detailed brief from either the Creative or Art Director, and/or an Account Handler, or sometimes directly from DaimlerChrysler UK. Typically, I would need to adapt any European car photography to shown UK right-hand drive and UK number plates, which would often involve extensive retouching. Several mockups was my modus operandi during the artwork and production process, to ensure that any die cutter guides were precise, and all folds and reveals worked as intended.
Learning from some fantastic Directors, Designers, Account Handlers, commercial printers – and everyone in between – this time was really where I cut my teeth in the corporate world of Direct Mail and advertising.
